The animation and television world is mourning the loss of a true creative force. Emmy-nominated The Fairly OddParents composer Guy Moon dies at 63, leaving behind a rich legacy of unforgettable melodies that shaped the childhoods of millions of viewers around the world.

Guy Moon passed away on January 8 in Los Angeles following a tragic traffic accident. He was riding his Vespa in the Wilmington neighborhood when he was struck by a vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news two days later through a Facebook post, sending waves of sorrow through the entertainment and animation communities.

The Sound Behind a Cartoon Classic

Moon was best known for his long-running work on Nickelodeon’s The Fairly OddParents, the wildly popular animated series about Timmy Turner and his magical godparents. From 2001 to 2017, Moon composed music for more than 150 episodes, giving the show its lively, emotional, and comedic musical heartbeat. His compositions helped define the show’s identity, making it one of the most recognizable animated series of its generation.

Award-Winning Talent

Moon’s talent did not go unnoticed. Between 2002 and 2004, he earned four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Music and Lyrics, all for songs he created for The Fairly OddParents. He collaborated closely with series creator Butch Hartman and writer Steve Marmel on those pieces, and Scott Fellows joined them on one of the nominated songs.

In addition to his Emmy recognition, Moon won three consecutive BMI Cable Awards from 2002 to 2004 for his work on the series, shared with Hartman and Ron Jones. He also received an Annie Award in 2007 for Outstanding Music in a Television Production, further cementing his status as one of animation’s most respected composers.

A Life Rooted in Music

Raised in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Moon developed a deep love for music early in life. He went on to study at the University of Arizona School of Music and drew inspiration from jazz greats like Chick Corea. His professional journey began in the 1980s, eventually leading him to Hollywood, where he became a sought-after composer for television and film.

Beyond The Fairly OddParents, Moon also contributed to Butch Hartman’s other animated series, including Danny Phantom and T.U.F.F. Puppy. His film and TV credits included The Brady Bunch Movie, A Very Brady Sequel, Come On, Get Happy: The Partridge Family Story, and A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!. His final credited work came in 2025 for the streaming series The Artist.

Remembering the Man Behind the Music

Guy Moon leaves behind his wife, Jennifer Moon, his daughters Chelsea and Savannah, his son Dusty, his parents, two sisters, and seven grandchildren, with another on the way. His family announced that a memorial service will be held in Los Angeles on February 7 — what would have been his 64th birthday — followed by another remembrance in Wisconsin at a later time.

As fans revisit the joyful and whimsical music that brought so many animated stories to life, one thing is clear: Emmy-nominated The Fairly OddParents composer Guy Moon dies at 63, but his melodies will continue to live on, echoing through the hearts of everyone who grew up with his unforgettable work.
