“The Clintons reference the ‘dismantling of America’ as their reason for declining to testify in the Epstein case.”

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have formally refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee in connection with the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. In a pointed letter, they described their decision as a stand against what they called the “dismantling of America,” emphasizing that political theatrics should not take priority over real justice.

The Jan. 13 letter, shared publicly on the social media platform X, was addressed to Rep. James Comer, R-Kentucky, the committee chairman. The Clintons criticized Comer for using the investigation as a political tool, asserting that his focus should instead be on preventing future crimes similar to those committed by Epstein.

“We are confident that any reasonable person in or out of Congress will see, based on everything we release, that what you are doing is trying to punish those who you see as your enemies and to protect those you think are your friends,” the Clintons wrote.

Legal Stand and Scheduled Depositions

Bill Clinton had been scheduled for a deposition on Jan. 13, while Hillary Clinton was set for Jan. 14. Comer has indicated the committee will proceed with contempt of Congress measures next week after their refusal. In their letter, the former president and first lady called the subpoenas “invalid and legally unenforceable” but affirmed their readiness to present their case to the full 45-member committee if necessary.

The Clintons emphasized that they have previously provided sworn statements similar to those accepted from others subpoenaed in the Epstein investigation. They claim Comer’s handling of the investigation has hindered the discovery of key facts about the government’s involvement.

Clarifying Epstein Connections

Bill Clinton has acknowledged meeting Epstein on multiple occasions and taking four trips on Epstein’s plane, insisting he had no knowledge of the financier’s criminal activities. Photographs featuring Clinton have surfaced in the extensive trove of documents released by Congress and the Justice Department, which include handwritten notes, photos, and other records.

"The Clintons reference the 'dismantling of America' as their reason for declining to testify in the Epstein case."

While the released documents highlight Epstein’s connections with prominent figures—including Bill Clinton, former President Donald Trump, and major business leaders—they have not revealed additional suspects or co-conspirators beyond those already identified. According to a recent court filing, the Justice Department has reviewed nearly 13,000 documents, with approximately two million still under review.

Accusations Against Committee Chairman

The Clintons sharply criticized Comer for allegedly failing to compel the Department of Justice to release all Epstein-related files, including any that might pertain to them. They accused him of misleading the public about the stakes of the investigation, arguing that his actions serve more to halt congressional work than to achieve justice.

“Despite everything that needs to be done to help our country, you are on the cusp of bringing Congress to a halt to pursue a rarely used process literally designed to result in our imprisonment,” the Clintons wrote.

Concluding their letter, the former president and first lady warned that true American resilience cannot be undone by political maneuvers:

“Continue to abet the dismantling of America, and you will learn that it takes more than a wrecking ball to demolish what Americans have built over 250 years.”
